Do I need to own a gun to take classes?
No. For classes that include live range time, we partner with ranges that offer gun rentals. For more information on classes and gun rentals, contact us here.
Are classes beginner friendly?
Absolutely! A lot of our students have never shot a firearm before taking our classes. We teach firearm fundamentals and create a beginner-friendly environment. Our classes are a great fit whether you've been a long time gun enthusiast or you're just getting started.

How much does a Concealed Carry License cost?
In Illinois, the filing fee for your application is $150. Although you'll need to pass the training course which costs $150 through Lightning Defense Academy. Optionally, you can submit fingerprints with your application to speed up the process. We offer fingerprinting services for $60.

What should I expect at a class?
Our classes cover topics like firearm and first-aid fundamentals, home defense, legality of carrying a concealed weapon, and self-defense habits. All our classes are suitable for beginners all the way up to seasoned pros.

What do you sell in your store?
We carry a variety of essentials for self defense, concealed carry, and first aid. We filter through thousands of products to find some of the best bang-for-the-buck items to stock in our store. We carry holsters, bags, cleaning kits, optics, lights, knives, safes, accessories, and more. Browse our online store now or visit us in-person for a larger selection.

​Do I need a FOID card to take classes?
No. You don't need a FOID card to take classes. However, you will need a FOID card to submit your Concealed Carry Application so we always suggest applying for your FOID card right away! If you have questions about your FOID or CCW application, reach out and we would be happy to help.
Do you offer classes besides Concealed Carry?
Yes! We offer a variety of classes. Concealed Carry, Women's Handgun, Emergency First-Aid, Private Classes, and more! If you'd like to view our classes you can browse our currently available classes.
Why should I take self defense classes?
We don't get the luxury of knowing when, where, or who could put us in a life-threatening situation. Self defense is a skill we hope to never need but in the event we do, it's a matter of life or death. We always encourage customers to at least learn firearm fundamentals and self defense basics to help protect themselves and their families.
Do you offer group discounts?
If you're bringing a group of 10 or more, please contact us before registering for classes. We'll be sure to accommodate your group and we'll be happy to discuss discounts.
Do you sell ammunition?
Yes! We sell limited ammunition in-store and offer a wide selection of ammunition at our online store. We often promote sales for our ammo on Facebook If you're looking for something specific, be sure to contact us before stopping by our store.
Do you offer fingerprinting services?
Yes! We can handle your live scan fingerprinting for your CCW Application. This process is optional for your application but can speed up the background check process.
Do you help with state applications for FOID and CCW licenses?
Absolutely! If you have questions about the application process or the application itself, we help our students fill out their applications and even obtain their live scan fingerprinting if they choose to submit them with their application. Contact us today to get started.
How do I become an instructor
To become a certified USCCA Instructor, you must pass the Instructor's Course. We offer the instructor certification course multiple times per year. You can view our upcoming schedule for more details.
